What is CUET exam?
The full form of CUET is Central Universities Entrance Test. This is an exam to get you enrolled in any of the university you have dreamt of. For example, whatever you have dreamt of like you have to study in Delhi University or in BHU etc and the course like B.A or B.Com , whichever, you want to pursue in those universities, you need to appear for an entrance test called CUET. What type of exam is this? This is an Hybrid mode Objective Question Type Test.
Hybrid mode means it is conducted online as well as offline. How do you decide which mode you have to appear ? Well It depends on whatever subjects you have chosen to appear for CUET exam, if that is to be appeared by students more than 1.5 lacks in numbers, then the mode for the same will be pen – paper based, and if there are students appearing are less than 1.5 lacs in numbers, then it will be conducted online. This is an MCQ based test where there are 4 options given and you need to mark one correct option as your answer.
Universities and Courses :
This exam covers more than 300 plus universities and 100 plus UG courses . It covers universities like DU, BHU, BBAU, JNU, JMI, GGSIPU, AU, AMU etc. It has courses like BA, B.Com, Bsc., BBA, BMS, BA LLB, B.Ed, B.Tech etc. Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed universities, almost all universities are being covered here. There are only a few universities which enroll students without the CUET exam. But all the good universities which probably you are aiming for, will get you enrolled through CUET .

CUET Exam
The CUET exam has three sections. Section I , Section II and Section III. Section I is of Languages section. You get 33 languages in option to appear your exam in. Section II is a domain section. There are 27 domains. These are domains which you already have in class 12th. For example , if we talk about Commerce, then we have Business studies, Economics, Mathematics, Accountancy will be called Domains subjects. Section III is a General Test.
What all subjects do you see in this test? This is a combination of many subjects like Current affairs, General knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical reasoning etc.
Section I will 50 question, out of which you have to attempt 40 questions. In section II too, you have to attempt 40 questions out of 50 questions given in the test , whereas in Section III, you need to attempt 50 questions out of 60 questions given to you in the test. In section I , you will get 45 minutes , in section II , for some domains you get 45 minutes, for others you get 60 minutes. The numerical domains like Accountancy, Mathematics, you will get 60 minutes, whereas the theoretical domains like Business Studies, History , Geography etc will get 45 minutes. You get 60 minutes to appear for General test.
The total marks for section I is 200, which means, the question of one correct answer marked can fetch you 5 marks. The same goes for section II as well. In section III, the total marks will be 250.

CUET Exam – Subject Combination
Subject combination should be made or based on your targeted courses and university. You must have dreamt of a few universities or courses, so accordingly , you can decide your combination. Every university has its own eligibility. The university has its criteria where it prefers that a student has appeared for some particular domains on CUET. You can appear for maximum 6 exams . You can take the exam of those domains which were the part of your class 12th, for example, if you are a commerce student, then you cannot opt for Physics or Chemistry exam or History until you have that subject in class 12th. However, you can opt for any language for section I . The previous mention criterion is only for Domain section.
UG Courses :
The popular courses which students pursue from these universities are B.com (Prog.). B.com (Hons.), B.A. Economics (Hons.), BBA, BMS . There are other courses as well, but students dominantly opt for these courses.
B.com (Prog)
Candidates must appear in CUET in any of the following subject combinations:
Combination I : Any one language from List A + Any two subjects from List B1 + Any one subject from either list B1 or list B2
OR
Combination II: Any one language from List A + Any one subject from either List B1 or List B2 + section III of CUET (General Test)
Merit will be based on the best CUET scores obtained from any of the above – mentioned combinations of subjects. Note : As the weightage of the CUET sections is not the same, appropriate proration will be done.
B.Com (Hons.)
Candidates must appear in CUET in any of the following subject combinations:
Combination I : Any one language from List A +Mathematics /Applied Mathematics +Any two subjects out of which at least one should be from List B1 .
OR
Combination II : Any one language from List A +Accountancy /Book Keeping +Any two subjects out of which at least one should be from List B1 .
Merit will be based on the best CUET scored obtained from any of the above-mentioned combination of subjects.
B.A. Economics (Hons.)
Candidates must appear in CUET in the following subject combination:
Any one language from List A + Mathematics /Applied Mathematics + Any two subjects out of which one should be from List B1.
Merit will be based on the CUET scored obtained from the above-mentioned combination of subjects.
BBA
Candidates must appear in CUET in the following subject combination :
Any one language from List A +Mathematics/Applied Mathematics + Section III of CUET (General Test)
Merit will be based on the CUET scores obtained from the above mentioned combination of subjects.
BMS
Candidates must appear in CUET in the following subject combination :
Any one language from List A + Mathematics /Applied+section III of CUET (General Test)
Merit will be based on the CUET scores obtained from the above mentioned combination of subjects.
CUET 2025 Syllabus
For CUET latest syllabus, you can refer to the official website https://exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG . It is recommended that you have a look at this website carefully and check the syllabus in detail, as there are some topics in Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics etc., which are not in some of the syllabus of the board exam, but are the part of CUET 2025 syllabus.
Change of stream through CUET
If you are from Commerce and want it to change into Science, then it is not possible for you to change the stream. However, if you are from Commerce and you want to go for the graduation courses in Humanities(arts), it is possible for you to opt for the same. You cannot opt for all the courses of arts, few have some criteria. For details regarding changing the stream, you will have to go to the information Bulletin of DU. In this Bulletin, DU has given the information in detail.
CUET Marking Scheme
- Correct Answer : +5 marks
- Incorrect Answer : -1 mark
- Unanswered/Marked for Review : No Marks
- If more than 1 option is correct : +5 marks to those students who have marked any option.
- If all the options are correct = +5 marks for those students who attempted the question.
- If none of the option is correct or question is wrong = +5marks for those students who attempted the question.
Competition in CUET
In year 2022, 9.9 Lakhs students registered for the CUET exam. In the year 2023, 14.9 Lakh students registered for the exam. In the year 2024, 13.4 Lakhs students registered for the exam.

CUET Safe Score for Commerce Students
In CUET, the students from Arts and Commerce background appear for this exam a lot and therefore the competition for the same is also high. If we talk about score, let’s us see DU which has three campuses- North Campus, South Campus and Off campus. Students generally prefer North Campus and the cut off for North Campus also goes high. So, if we talk about B.com Hons., which is the most commonly preferred stream in commerce for students as has been observed.
For B.com Hons., out of 800 (Language – 200 marks + 3 Domains – 600 marks) , if you want to know the safe score so that you can get North campus, then it is suggested that you get 750 Plus marks . For South and Off campus, you need to get 650 plus to get any college of the North and Off campus. These were the safe scores for the general category. For others, as the rules are mentioned on the website respective categories, you can expect relaxation of 15 marks more.
For courses like BBA and BMS, you need to get at least score of 620 out of 650 , to get into the best college for BBA of DU.
