What is CAT ?

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is country’s most reputed national-level entrance exam, which allows candidates to get into top institutes which offer management degree. It is the biggest MBA entrance test in India. The IIMs (Indian Institute of Management), which are the top business schools for management offering doctorate, executive, post graduate and graduate programs, are also known to conduct this Common Admission Test once in a year on a rotational basis.

What is Rotational Basis: Rotational basis means every year, one IIM

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer-based entrance test for graduate management programs in India. The test is divided into three sections:

1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, commonly known as VARC section.
2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, commonly known as DILR
3. Quantitative Ability, commonly known as QA.

The test is of 120 minutes which lead to 2 hours. Students get 40 minutes for each section.

CAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who want to appear for CAT 2024 should be eligible and fulfil the criteria set. They should meet the required criteria to appear for the exam. The candidates who fulfil the criteria will be allowed to appear for the CAT 2024. The following are the eligibility criteria which candidates must abide by:

1. Candidates who want to apply for the CAT 2024 must have the bachelor’s degree in any discipline. If they are from general and NC-OBC category, they must have scored minimum of 50%, if they are SC, ST, and PWD candidates, they must have scored minimum of 45%.
2. The bachelor’s degree which candidate possess must have proper validation. Proper validation will include the degree from any of the universities incorporated by an Act of the central or state legislature in India or any educational institute established by an Act of Parliament or any institution declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Candidate will also be eligible if he possesses an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
3. Final year bachelor’s degree candidates are eligible to take the CAT 2024, if they have met the criterion of the required grade point average. If the candidate is not able to meet this requirement in subsequent stages, it will result in the cancellation of admission.
4. Candidates holding a professional degree like CA, CS or ICWS are also eligible to take CAT 2024 exam.
5. To apply for CAT 2024 exam, candidates do not have to face any age restrictions. CAT 2024 exam opens doors and provides opportunities for all the students to participate irrespective of their age.

Cat 2024: Application Process

The registration process for CAT 2024 is clear and simple. Candidate must login to the official website http://iimcat.ac.in

CAT 2024 Registration Process

1. If you want to register as a new candidate and doe not login id , then you must visit the official website and provide your basic information under the tab ‘New Candidate Registration.’
2. After you have submitted the details, you will receive an OTP for the verification of registration.
3. After the verification process is done, you will get your login id and password on your registered e-mail and mobile number.
4. You can now start by adding the required information asked in the application form.
5. You are free to choose the city where you would like to have the interview, and you also get to select the programmes that you want to participate in.
6. You can choose up to 6 preferred cities for the CAT 2024 exam.

Uploading Documents

It is crucial for the candidate to upload the necessary documents as specified in the application from, during the application filling process. Test takers will have to present their mark sheets and degrees in person. However, there are some documents which need to be submitted during the application process.

The following documents will be required in the application process:

1. Passport size photograph
2. NC-OBC/SC/ST certificate
3. PWD certificate (if required)
4. Signature

Application Fee

The tentative information till date regarding the application fee for CAT 2024 is as follows:

1. In order to successfully completion of your registration for CAT 2024, candidates are required to pay the application fees. The fee for the application form of CAT 2024 has to be submitted online only.
2. You can review your application before you pay the fees for the form.
3. After you have successfully paid the application fee amount, you will receive a confirmation e mail after a few minutes.

 CAT 2024 Admit Card

It is anticipated that admit card for CAT 2024 is going to get released in October 2024. Candidates need to have the following information regarding Admit Card:

1. CAT candidates can go to the official website by logging in to their account with the help of login id and password provided to them, and then can access and download their admit card.
2. Your admit card will have information regarding the location, date and time of the test.
3. Candidates must remember to bring their admit cards with them, on the day of examination.

CAT 2024 Syllabus

CAT 2024 test contains three sections, namely Verbal ability reading comprehension (VARC), Quantitative Ability (QA) and Data interpretation & logical reasoning (DILR). Each section has its own weightage. The syllabus of CAT is designed according to the format established by IIM Ahmedabad.

CAT 2024 syllabus – VARC

VARC is the first section which you will have to appear for while you take the CAT 2024 test. IT consists of two sections namely, Verbal ability and Reading comprehension.

DILR syllabus

The DILR section has to be attempted after the VARC section. It is divided into two parts – Data interpretation and Logical reasoning. The topics covered in DILR section are:

QA syllabus
